Schiffmann gained fame as a teenager for building a widely used COVID-19 tracking website in 2020. He founded Friend,makers of a $99 always-listening AI companion necklace designed to combat loneliness; it communicates by texting the user's phone rather than speaking. He raised $2.5M at a $50M valuation from investors including Perplexity CEO Aravind Srinivas,Solana's founders and Caffeinated Capital,and famously spent $1.8M of it to buy the friend.com domain. The basic device began shipping in early 2025.
